Bootstrapskin iPhone Extension, download, install and customisation

Download BootStrapSkin Mini 1.0.44

BootStraSkin Mini is a brand new skin for Mediawiki, it can be used in combination with BootStrapSkin or any of the next generation skins we'll be releasing over the next few months. The "stable" version of BootStrapSkin Mini has a proposed release date of October 1st 2014, though a Beta version is available to download now (see below).

All future versions of BootStrapSkin will include Mini as will the next generation (bootstrap) skins. Mini is not available with BootStrapSkin 1.0.43 but it will be included with 1.0.44

What's Cool About Mini?

For the majority of visitors your wiki will not change at all, whether you're using BootStrapSkin or any other skin they will continue to render as normal when viewed using a PC, Laptop or Tablet, it is only when a visitor views your wiki using a mobile phone that Mini is loaded in place of the default skin.

Installation

Upack the download and upload bootstrapmini to the skins folder.

Dont be concerned that there isn't a base file in skins root, this is normal.

Add the following code at the bottom of your LocalSettings.php

require_once( "$IP/skins/bootstrap/bootstrapskin.php" );
require_once( "$IP/skins/bootstrapmini/bootstrapskinmini.php" );
$wgDefaultSkin = "bootstrapskin";
$wgRestrictDisplayTitle = false;
$wgAllowExternalImages = true;

if (preg_match("/(mobile|webos|opera mini|iphone)/i", $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'])) {
    $wgDefaultSkin = 'bootstrapskinmini';
} else {
    $wgDefaultSkin = 'bootstrapskin';
}
RestrictDisplayTitle

BootStrapSkin offers numerous alternatives to style article titles. Using this setting allows you to decide if you want to include the default title styling or not.

AllowExternalImages

Unlike BootStrapSkin this is an essential requirement as you will need to add the thumbnail and img-thumbnail classes to your images to ensure they are responsive and thus shrink for mobile viewing - visit the link in "Customisation" below for the why's and how's.

preg_match

Add or remove which devices you wish to use BootStrapSkin Mini.

Other Consideration

BootStrapSkin Mini is a read only skin! There are no system links, the code is smaller (one quarter the size of BootStrapSkin), with a lot less JavaScripts and minified stylesheets. Mini has been designed with speed in mind, it primary purpose is to provide a convenient method or reading your wiki content on a mobile phone.

BootStrapSkin Mini still uses Bootstrap, though there are less style classes than BootStrapSkin, but several more than the standard Bootstrap. We've also included lightbox and Nav Tabs along with more stylish buttons, alerts and panels, Font Awesome is also included.

If you use our Contact Form extension this works with Mini too.

Customisation

There shouldn't be any need to customise the skin other than to change the links, which you can modify easily (lines 160 - 163 of Bootstrapskinmini.skin.php).
