Aesthetic medicine - definition and scope. Treatments and doctors of aesthetic medicine

Aesthetic medicine in the last few years has been gaining popularity due to the low invasiveness of treatments and a wide range of action - from wrinkle correction through lip augmentation to cheek shaping. Aesthetic medicine in Poland is not a separate medical specialization, so all these types of treatments can be performed by any doctor with a license to practice.

Aesthetic medicine includes minimally invasive and safe procedures, thanks to which you can effectively improve beauty defects without excluding you from everyday activities. Aesthetic medicine fills the gap between plastic surgery and cosmetology. By interfering in the deeper layers of the skin with a relatively small burden on the body can achieve better visual effects than in the case of cosmetic procedures.

What is the definition of aesthetic medicine?

Aesthetic medicine by definition is a branch of medicine dealing with ensuring high quality of life of healthy people by taking preventive measures aimed at prevention of skin aging, and in the next stage of reconstructive actions aimed at restoring the state before this process. Aesthetic medicine includes prescription drugs and non-invasive or minimally invasive treatments. The sole and overarching goal of aesthetic medicine is actions that improve the physical attractiveness of the patient. Explore more: klinikamurano.com.

Aesthetic medicine and cosmetology

Plastic surgery, aesthetic medicine, and cosmetology cover the same range of activities aimed at ensuring a high quality of life of healthy people through prevention of skin aging and correction of various defects, but each of these fields uses completely different methods. Aesthetic medicine procedures are less invasive and safer than in the case of plastic surgery. They are performed on an outpatient basis, without the use of a scalpel, and do not require the patient to stay in hospital or undergo long convalescence. Aesthetic medicine procedures allow only small incisions and punctures and local anesthesia. In addition, aesthetic medicine deals with skin, subcutaneous tissue, dentition and hormonal balance, making extensive use of the body's self-healing abilities. Compared to cosmetic procedures, which only have a superficial effect, aesthetic medicine is more invasive, because it activates the skin to renewal by intervening in its deeper layers, which makes it more effective.

Aesthetic Medicine Treatments

Indications for aesthetic medicine treatments may be of various nature - if started early enough, they can stimulate the skin, ensuring its increased regeneration and preventing signs of aging. Another group includes treatments using botulinum toxin, tissue fillers based on hyaluronic acid and various types of tissue growth modifiers, as well as transplants of own fat or platelets. The scope of aesthetic medicine includes a whole range of treatments for different parts of the body. These include lip contouring, filling wrinkles and furrows, firming and rejuvenation of the skin, reduction of hyperpigmentation, elimination of excess fat, cellulite and stretch marks, removal of acne and post-surgery scars, improvement of facial shape, reduction of dark circles under the eyes, removal of birthmarks and warts.

Aesthetic medicine - specialization

Currently, aesthetic medicine treatments legally can carry out only a doctor with a license to practice. In the Polish education system there is no specialization in aesthetic medicine, so regardless of specialization any doctor can deal with the performance of these treatments, provided that he/she is self-educated in this direction. In order to develop this young branch of medicine in Poland, postgraduate studies for doctors in aesthetic medicine were created. Due to the lack of legal regulations regarding the scope of skills and knowledge that a doctor performing aesthetic medicine procedures must possess, it is possible to work in such a capacity after completing not only postgraduate studies, but also a few-day training often conducted by manufacturers or distributors of devices and preparations used during the procedures.
