At the beginning it's of course worth checking if the pet has not found another place to take care of itself. It is also worth seeing how he uses the litter tray - is it painful for him and does not make strange noises during this time.

First of all, cats that have problems with defecation are much less active. They may even avoid their owner and not want to have fun. Most often they also do not want to drink and eat. A typical symptom is walking in a sunken and dyed position and meowing for no reason.

In fact, in the case of cats, constipation and constipation are influenced by many different factors. The most popular of them are:

  • low physical activity (constipation often occurs in overweight cats),
  • indigestion (cats sometimes eat gravel or dirty food),
  • hairballs,
  • eating only dry or low quality food and drinking a small amount of water,
  • internal diseases, e.g. giant colorectal syndrome or inflammation of the glands around the anus,
  • genetic defects,
  • spinal deformities in the sacral region.

However, no matter what the root cause of the problem is, the problem of cat constipation should not be underestimated. However, to minimize constipation in your cat, you can always use homemade methods and follow a few basic rules. First of all, your pet should have a healthy diet, preferably close to the natural one. It should include meat. He must also drink large amounts of water.

You should also regularly comb your cat's coat and remove any already dead hair that she may swallow while washing. Thanks to this, hairballs will not accumulate in his gastrointestinal tract, and this is definitely one of the most common causes of constipation in cats. So it turns out that the key to success is the right diet and care. If necessary, or if the symptoms persist with your pet, you should go to the vet. Sometimes constipation is a symptom of more serious diseases that require treatment.
