Excessive hair loss in your dog - how to remedy it?

Dogs lose their hair all year round, and increased hair loss can be observed especially in spring, when, in preparation for warmer months, they get rid of dense, winter fur. However, it is worth knowing that sudden, heavy moulting or a permanent, prolonged condition of this type may be a cause for concern. Learn more about excessive hair loss in your dog.

Dog hair loss - causes

Increased hair loss in dogs is usually caused by the same cause - improper diet. A four-legged person usually starts exaggeratedly rope if he lacks some nutrients. What are the ingredients? This is usually due to a shortage of unsaturated fatty acids or vitamin A or biotin, but these are not the only deficiencies that can manifest themselves in excessive fur loss. It is therefore worth taking care to ensure that our pet's menu is always properly balanced and valuable.

What about hair loss in your dog?

The simplest and most effective way to stop excessive moulting in most cases is to supplement dietary deficiencies. It is worth taking care of the presence of such products as liver, carrots, broccoli, nuts, soya, rice or egg yolks in the bowl of our pet. These are natural and rich sources of vitamins A, H and biotin. Vegetable oils, especially borage and evening primrose oils, will help to reduce the deficiency of unsaturated fatty acids.

However, it is not said that we therefore have to start preparing daily meals for our four-legged dog ourselves. It is enough to change the ready-made food. Properly balanced mixes, designed for dogs with skin problems, will be bought in pet shops and veterinary surgeries. Special products for long-haired dogs are also worth mentioning.

Adequate food is usually a sufficient remedy for the problem of excessive moulting. Sometimes, however, it may turn out that we cannot do without additional substances containing vitamins and minerals. However, under no circumstances should such preparations be used on their own. You will need to consult your vet, as excess vitamins can also be harmful to your dog.

Dog hair loss and scratching

Although, as stated above, excessive exuviation is usually related to diet, other conditions should not be excluded as well. The cause of this ailment may be skin diseases, for example.

So if your dog, apart from losing his coat, for example, is also a frequent predator, we should consult a veterinarian. A visit to the office is even necessary if we also observe red spots, scabs, wounds or abscesses on the skin of the pet. They may be evidence of serious cases.

Chronic hair loss in your dog can also be the result of a food allergy. This is a quite common ailment, so we should certainly not rule it out. The most common allergies suffered by pets are allergy to protein in poultry and cereals. Unfortunately, these ingredients are found in many foods. The only way to avoid an allergic reaction, and therefore increased exuviation, is to remove harmful substances from the diet, and thus replace the existing food with such, intended for dogs-allergy sufferers.

Dog hair loss - medicines

Skin lesions associated with excessive skin shedding can also be caused by bacterial or fungal skin disease. If this is really a problem, your vet will prescribe the right medicines. Never treat such ailments on your own!

Hair loss can sometimes also be a symptom of hormonal changes. These in turn can originate from various diseases - from natural life processes to serious illnesses. Even then you will need the help of a doctor and professional treatment of your pet.
